Pitching the Perfect Lesson 🏕️ Access Points: Inclusive by Design
Thursday July 16, 2026 10:30am - 12:00pm HST
(Note: this session will be duplicated later today)
Are you feeling a little "lost in the woods" when it comes to reaching every student in your classroom? Don't let your instructional planning be an uphill hike without a map! Join us for a workshop dedicated to building access points—the ultimate "trail guide" for teaching EVERYONE!

Don’t let your instruction get lost in the woods; join our workshop to master access points, the proactive trail guide for inclusive learning. Rather than a last-minute rescue mission, these built-in strategies remove boulders (barriers) without lowering the peak (grade-level expectations), providing a pre-mapped route for every student. This session is essential for every educator because access points are available to all learners—not just those with specific "trail passes" like IEPs—allowing you to increase engagement and reduce the need for one-on-one survival gear. Pack your instructional backpack with us to ensure every student in your troop reaches the summit and finds success on the trail.

🧸 Feelings Around the Campfire: Kimochis 101 - Introduction to Kimochis Characters and Activities
Thursday July 16, 2026 10:30am - 12:00pm HST
When our keiki are hit with an emotional thunderstorm, it can completely wash out the trail for the whole group.
That’s where Kimochis comes in! "Kimochi" means feeling in Japanese, and this evidence-based, social-emotional learning (SEL) multi-tool is the ultimate survival gear for helping kids (ages 3–12) identify, process, and regulate those massive internal weather systems.

In this interactive workshop, we’re going to introduce you to a crew of plush characters and emotion pillows that act as visual trail markers for your students. These characters give our keiki a concrete, hands-on way to "talk story" about what's going on inside.

Walk away with fun, interactive tools to weave core SEL competencies seamlessly into your daily morning meetings and transition times.

Whether you're a seasoned Gen Ed guide, a SPED trailblazer, a frontline EA, or an Admin keeping the whole forest safe, this session will give you the practical gear you need to guide your classroom community through any emotional wilderness. Let's make sure no child gets left behind at the emotional trailhead!

🧸🧸 Navigating the Emotional Wilderness: Kimochis 201 – Keys to Communication and Kotowazas
Thursday July 16, 2026 1:10pm - 2:40pm HST
Welcome to the next leg of our journey! Now that you’ve met the characters and packed your basic survival gear in Kimochis 101, it’s time to pitch a deeper tent. In this advanced expedition, we will explore the Kimochis Keys to Communication and Kotowazas (Japanese proverbs)—the ultimate compass and multi-tool for weathering the most unpredictable classroom climates.

This session equips you with the heavy-duty rain gear and communication lanterns your students need to navigate complex social-emotional terrain.  When the weather turns fierce and a sudden emotional flash flood hits your classroom, a map alone isn't enough—you need the advanced survival skills to guide your pack safely back to camp.

What We'll Pack in Your Camp Kit:
  • Master the Keys to Communication: Learn how to teach keiki the exact verbal and non-verbal trail signs needed to clear the air after an emotional downpour.
  • Unlock the Power of Kotowazas: Discover how these catchy, memorable catchphrases act as mental umbrellas and walking sticks, helping kids self-regulate before a emotional thunderstorm takes out the whole campsite.
  • Advanced Wilderness Tactics: Get hands-on practice on how to redirect challenging behaviors and repair communication rifts when the trail gets rocky.
Whether you're a seasoned Gen Ed guide, a SPED trailblazer, a frontline EA, or an Admin keeping the whole forest safe, Kimochis 201 will upgrade your toolkit from basic shelter to an unshakeable, storm-proof basecamp. Let’s help our keiki predict their internal weather and communicate like expert woodsmen!
